Festival de Teatro de Resende

The Festival has been encouraging a cultural exchange for 12 years and adds value to the region’s outdoor theater performances

The Resende Theater Festival is an annual event, having held its 12th edition in 2012. It began in 1988 and was interrupted after the 5th edition, being very successfully restored in 2006.

The project encompasses theater performances in different venues in the city and is aimed at both children’s and adult audiences, encouraging interest by the public and widespread access to the arts and culture. Performances are free of charge to the public. Furthermore, workshops with free admission are provided, to arouse an interest in the performing arts from the region’s local inhabitants.

Over 120,000 spectators have attended the 90 performances held in the last five years. Children, teenagers and adults crowded to the performances by theater companies from all over Brazil, held in the Cine Vitória that was restored and reopened for this activity, after being closed down for almost a decade. Group outdoor performances were also held, with simultaneous exhibitions by regional theater groups.

The Resende Theater Festival has been acknowledged as a Reference in Excellence in the domestic scenario, since it was restored in 2006. Its key objectives are: to encourage theater groups performing in the country, to expose new talents and promote cultural interchange, and to provide and encourage widespread access to culture in the municipality and region by means of free performances and workshops.

The Festival’s production has the support and partnership of Fundação Casa de Cultura Macedo Miranda and the Resende city hall, which provides logistics and human resources, among other things, ensuring the project’s feasibility under the most favorable conditions.
